Privacy Policy
Plain-language summary: Versie is a developer tool. Your source code never passes through Versie’s servers. The free tiers collect almost nothing — anonymous usage and error telemetry to improve the product, with all identifying information removed before transmission, plus a minimal activity heartbeat (hashed project ID, event type, timestamp) on saves and deploys. The paid dashboard collects the project activity data necessary to display your timeline and history, and stores an encrypted copy of your GitHub token to enable one-click rollback. We don’t sell your data, advertise to you, or use your data to train AI models. You can opt out of telemetry per project by saying “turn off telemetry” in your AI coding tool, or globally via VERSIE_TELEMETRY=false.
1.Who We Are
Versie is a product of Z12 Ventures LLC (“Versie,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), a limited liability company. Our product makes version control invisible for non-technical software builders. The Service is offered in free and paid tiers, including locally-run tools and a hosted web dashboard at versie.co.
By using any Versie product, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Privacy Policy. This policy applies to versie.co and all Versie software.
2.What We Collect
Versie is a local-first tool. Your source code, file contents, and repository data never leave your machine under any circumstances.
Depending on which features you use, we may collect:
- —Account information: Your GitHub username and email address, provided when you sign in with GitHub
- —Project activity: Version control event timestamps, commit messages, file change counts, and deployment history — the data that powers your project timeline and dashboard
- —Encrypted GitHub OAuth token: Versie requires GitHub sign-in, so an encrypted copy of your GitHub OAuth token is stored server-side for all dashboard users, encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM. This enables features that require repository access, such as one-click rollback (Pro). The plaintext token is never persisted. Deleted immediately upon account deletion.
- —Anonymous usage and error telemetry: Categorical data about which version control operations are performed and whether they succeed. No content, file paths, or identifying information is included. Not linked to your identity or repository.
- —Activity heartbeat: A minimal signal sent on core operations (save, deploy) containing a hashed project identifier, event type, and timestamp. Used to understand aggregate product usage. No content or personally identifying information is transmitted. Respects the same opt-out as usage telemetry.
- —Billing information: Managed by Stripe. We store only a billing reference ID — never card numbers or payment details
- —Notification preferences: Your email or webhook settings for deployment alerts, if configured
What we never collect: Source code, file contents, diffs, credentials, SSH keys, or environment variables.
Opt out of usage telemetry at any time: Say “turn off telemetry” in your AI coding tool to disable telemetry for a specific project, or set VERSIE_TELEMETRY=false in your environment to disable it globally across all projects.
3.Usage and Error Telemetry
When telemetry is enabled, Versie’s locally-run tools collect anonymous categorical data about version control operations — which actions are performed, whether they succeed, and what errors occur. This data is used to improve Versie’s reliability and error detection for all users. Personal information, file paths, repository names, and project-specific content are removed before any data leaves your device. Telemetry data is not linked to your identity, your repository, or your project.
Separately, a minimal activity heartbeat is sent on core operations containing only a hashed project identifier, event type, and timestamp. This is used to understand aggregate usage patterns and cannot be used to identify you or your project.
You may opt out of all telemetry at any time — per project by saying “turn off telemetry” in your AI coding tool, or globally by setting VERSIE_TELEMETRY=false in your environment. Opting out has no effect on any other functionality.
4.How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect solely to provide and improve the Service: to operate your account, display your project timeline and deployment history, process payments, send deployment notifications you’ve requested, improve error detection for all users, and understand how the product is used so we can improve it. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell your data. We do not use your data to train AI or machine learning models.
5.Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell your personal information. We work with third-party service providers for infrastructure, payments, and communications, each receiving only the data necessary to perform their function. A list of our sub-processors is available upon request at privacy@versie.co.
We will disclose data to legal authorities only when required by law or valid court order, and will notify affected users to the extent permitted. If the Versie product or its assets are sold or transferred, your data may transfer as part of that transaction. We will provide advance notice of any such transfer and any material change to how your data is handled.
6.International Data Transfers
Versie is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. By using the Service, you acknowledge that your information may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions, which may differ from the laws of your country of residence.
If you are located in the European Union or United Kingdom and have questions about how your data is handled, please contact us at privacy@versie.co.
7.Data Retention
- —Usage and error telemetry: Retained for 12 months from collection date, then deleted. Aggregated statistics may be retained indefinitely
- —Analytics and session recording data: Retained for 12 months, then deleted or anonymized
- —Event data (Pro): Retained for the duration of your active subscription, plus 90 days after cancellation
- —Account data: Retained until you request deletion, plus 30 days thereafter
- —Billing records: Retained as required by applicable tax and financial regulations (typically 7 years)

8.Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data. We honor these rights regardless of your location:
- —Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- —Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data
- —Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data (subject to retention requirements above)
- —Portability: Request your event data in a machine-readable format (JSON)

VERSIE_TELEMETRY=falseglobally - —Opt-out of analytics and session recording: Decline the consent banner (marketing site), or adjust your preference in Settings → Analytics at any time. Session recording can be controlled independently of analytics.
- —Withdraw consent: Disconnect your GitHub OAuth connection at any time via GitHub’s authorized applications settings
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below. We will respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity before processing certain requests.
EU/UK Users (GDPR/UK GDPR): We process your data on the basis of contract performance (Pro account and billing data), legitimate interests (usage and error telemetry and product analytics to improve the service), and consent (marketing site analytics cookies and dashboard session recording). Your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States. You have the right to withdraw consent, object to processing on the basis of legitimate interests, and lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Contact us at privacy@versie.co to exercise any of these rights.
California Users (CCPA/CPRA): We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. You may submit a request to know, delete, or correct by contacting us below.
9.Children’s Privacy
Versie is not directed at children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 16, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child under 16 has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.
10.Cookies, Analytics, and Tracking
Marketing site (versie.co)
We use a first-party analytics tool to understand how visitors discover and navigate our website — page views, referral sources, and general usage patterns. This tool uses cookies to identify unique visitors and track sessions across page loads. We do not use advertising cookies or share this data with ad networks.
If you are located in the EU or UK, a consent banner will appear on your first visit. Analytics cookies will only be set if you accept. If you decline, we collect no analytics data about your visit. Visitors outside the EU and UK are subject to analytics collection as described in this policy, consistent with applicable law.
Dashboard (logged-in users)
We use a first-party analytics tool to track product usage within the dashboard — which features you use, how you navigate, and where you encounter friction. This helps us improve the product. Your user ID, email address, plan, and role are associated with this usage data so we can understand how different users experience the product.
This may include session recordings: anonymized replays of your interactions with the dashboard interface. Session recordings capture clicks, navigation, and UI interactions. They do not capture keystrokes, form input, passwords, or your source code. You can manage session recording independently via the Session Recording toggle in Settings → Analytics. Opting out of analytics entirely also stops recording.
You may opt out of dashboard analytics and session recording at any time from Settings → Analytics. Opting out has no effect on dashboard functionality.
What we do not do
We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, cross-site tracking, or behavioral advertising networks on any Versie surface. We do not sell analytics data. We do not use Google Analytics.
11.Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy at any time. When we do, we will notify you by updating the date at the top of this page and, for material changes, by posting a notice on our website or contacting you directly. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
